NP-500
Napo has identified NP-500, a product for insulin-resistant diseases of Type II diabetes and Syndrome X (also known as Metabolic Syndrome).
This compound lowers glucose, increases insulin sensitivity, and lowers blood pressure. Additionally, it lowers LDL (low-density lipoprotein, commonly known as ‘bad’ cholesterol) and raises HDL (high-density lipoprotein, commonly known as ‘good’ cholesterol). NP-500 has a novel mechanism of action (recently validated by interest from large pharmaceutical company).
Napo will bring this product to proof of concept Phase 2 status in India while simultaneously conducting medicinal chemistry activities to generate a strong IP position. The chemical class has completed single dose Phase I testing.
NP-500 product attributes:
- Diabetes and insulin-resistance syndromes are epidemic throughout the world, afflicting up to 30% of population.
- Global need fits with Napo's business strategy.
- The beneficial effects of NP-500 on both lipids and blood pressure observed in preclinical studies give this compound an advantage when compared to the standard products, which affect only one of these disease targets.
